I think it means I'm starting my Braves franchise is over.

I think it's a great trade. McClouth is good for about 25 hr's a year (he's on pace for 28 this year), and for a CF'er that's pretty good. He's only 27, and is under the Braves control through 2012 (club option). He's pretty affordable. They really needed help as well. Their OF is anemic. Francouer only has 4 hr, and his slg is under .400. Garrett Anderson (in 114 abs) only has 2 hr. Schafer had a slg under .300 before getting sent down to the minors. Diaz is at least slugging over .400 (.444 to be exact) in his half of the platoon, but still, that's no production from your OF.

McClouth can also walk and steal a little bit. He's got a .349 OBP and is 7 for 7 stealing. He's 64 for 69 in his career. He was an all-star last year. He's a good fit for the Braves. Plus, sending Schafer down left them with little options. Gregor Blanco had 430 abs last year, hit .251 with 1 hr, and 13 sb.

As far as the guys the Braves gave up, Morton was a good prospect, but defenitly not inexpendable. He had an era over 6 last in over 70 innings (4-8 record). Locke had an ERA of 5.52 in high A ball this year, but he's a good lefty prospect, but again, not great. Gorkys is the guy to miss. He was hitting .311 in triple-A, and he's got great speed. He'll be a good major league leadoff hitter. But getting a CF for him, and still having Schafer, who will eventually be a good player, made him expendable.

Likewise, Andrew McCutchen made McClouth expendable for the Pirates. I've always been a fan of his. I think he's a great ballplayer, who is very well rounded.

I think this is only the beginning, though. I think Francouer is going to be gone soon. He needs a change of scenery, bad. I don't know what they can get for him, or who would take his place, but he seems done in Atlanta. Jason Heyward is the future in RF, but he's still in A ball, although he is playing well. Brandon Jones is playing well, and he may not have a ton of power, but he at least gets on base.

In more Braves news, they released Tom Glavine. He had yet to play for the Braves last year, and they did not feel his comeback was going sucessfully. He would've made a $1 million bonus had he made the 25-man roster. He opted against retirement for now. Tommy Hanson will make his major league debut on Saturday. He had a 1.49 era in Triple-A this year, after a 2.41 era across A and AA ball last year. He is clearly ready, as there is nothing left for him to do in the minors.

Interesting... Maybe the Red Sox can pick up Glavine and put him with Smoltz.
