Now I see why the Canes traded him so soon.
This guy is really starting to sound like a 'money' player. Contacting the KHL?

The only reason a North American would want to play in the KHL is because they no longer are wanted in the NHL or they're after money.

And I'm pretty sure Johnson is still wanted in the NHL. So I'm starting to think this kid is only playing hockey for the paycheck.

If what Barry Smith is saying is true, then I would deal Johnson ASAP.

and you guys got a solid player in Tim Gleason.

I have some comments but I'll wait a little bit longer before I express my full opinion but it looks like JJ is starting to be a real malcontent.

I'm glad the Canes got rid of Jack when they did.

I'm starting to get that impression too.
He only played 5 games in '07 just so it would count as 1 year against the 3-year rookie cap.
So now he has a total of 120 games (1.5 years) is up for a big RFA year. But his dad and Jack must think he didn't do well enough in his first 2 seasons to get a major leap in salary - which is why he's looking to go to the KHL.
Some team over there will probably offer him $4M/year tax free. That's more than what he'd get in the NHL after taxes.

If he wants to play in Siberia let him. Have fun traveling 11 time zones for a road game a'hole.

Speaking of the KHL, there's rumors that 5 Swedish Elite teams are going to join it this year and that players like Nik Zherdev and Martin Havlat could go over there.

I know I sound like a Don Cherry clone but I have no problems with this. I would absolutely love it if eventually we saw the KHL keep all the Euro talent and the NHL the North American skaters. Then the champs from either league play for the Stanley Cup.

The NHL should stop trying to shove the sport down the throats of some US markets that don't care and think Globally.
Can you imagine the global ratings for a Stanley Cup final between Boston and Moscow? Or Chicago and Stockholm?
The ratings and global interest would be through the roof.
I think even some non-fans in Albuquerque would pick up a paper or even tune in to see a global championship like that.

There was nothing better than the old Soviet wars between Team USA or Canada. We could finally have that back.
